Flying after a broken ankle?? Any advice please?

I fractured my tib and fib approx 4 weeks ago, and dislocated it too. I have had surgery on it, and have screws in the ankle for another 4 weeks (until about 20th June 08), when I will need another op to have them removed! I am flying from London to New York on 21st July, and am aware that I will be more at risk of DVT.

I am also on oral contraception, which increases the risk too. Does anyone have any advice?? Do those flight socks work? Should I stop taking the contraception now? (Its not for birth control). Would this help at all?

Thanks in advance!!
I have got titanium in the ankle, and that was one of the first things I asked, about metal detectors, and they said it wont pick it up!

Yes you should be okay to fly come July. Although prolonged flight after any leg problems is one of the leading causes of a DVT, the socks should help. Talk to you doctor about stopping your contraceptive. I dont think he will make you, but I’m not aware of your full condition. Be safe and contact your Doctor.

Hope I was able to help. Feel free to email me with any further questions.
