Bald Eagle

American Eagle threatened habitats

Energy Endangers National Bird Project

New York Regional Interconnect, Inc. (NYRI) plans to install 200 miles of 400 kilovolt-1200 MW DC transmission lines from the town of Marcy, NY, near Utica, the city of New Windsor, Orange County to supply power to New York and Long Island.

73 miles of this line would be built along the railroad tracks in the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware River from Hancock to Port Jervis, NY. This stretch of river is the beginning of a breeding ground for American Bald Eagle.

It is recognized that this waterway is the cheapest way to build the power line proposal, but certainly not the only way. NYRI has explored other options, including placement power lines along existing road rights of way. This would, of course, a suitable alternative. It would disturb the habitat natural bald eagle, or spoil the beauty of the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River corridor.

The Upper Delaware Preservation Coalition (UDPC) has maintained Prosecutor Richard J. Lippes in hopes of ending or diversion of this project. He is recognized nationally for the legal defense of the plaintiffs in the successful high profile and historic environment and the preservation of the cases, such as Love Canal and Three Mile Island.

The NYRI Power Line Project in turn, the river corridor in a construction zone for over 2 years. Noise pollution of dynamite, diesel cranes, and the general excitement moving to wildlife, including eagles, perhaps forever. No community will forgive them, and the economic damage would be felt for years. The quiet beauty of pristine rivers disappear, so that fishermen, summer tourists and American Eagle.

Even if an eagle were few, most likely perish blows, or sit on power lines end. It is also a known fact that even close to the lines electrified – especially high-voltage lines – is dangerous and potentially lethal.

The NYRI is a private property and private finance for the company nonprofit. NYRI, which has big money behind, is represented by the powerhouse New York law by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Although the project NYRI maintains an office in Albany, New York, a Canadian businessman named Richard Muddiman is its chairman. NYRI investors in this company one billion dollars remain in the anonymity. One has to wonder if any of these investors are U.S. citizens. The question must be asked why foreign entrepreneurs who get rich at the expense of our national bird? Why anyone?

This project was originally proposed by a company called Pegasus in 2003. NYRI they bought the rights to utilities run along the rail line and South Norfolk. Pegasus was, curiously, also directed by Canadian Richard A. Muddiman. I think his nickname is RAM!

The high voltage power lines mounted on towers 130 feet high and spaced every 800 feet by 200 miles. It would transform two of the most beautiful rivers in the U.S., the Lackawaxen and Delaware, in an industrial canal.

The NYRI Power Line Project would have a devastating effect not only in the landscape, the beauty of this area but in the entire eagle population. Eagles are not very tolerant of human activity. Human presence can stress these birds, particularly nesting eaglets and can negatively affect their feeding and sleeping patterns. Eagle observers are instructed to be very careful to observe to these majestic creatures. Binoculars are used at a safe distance. In an interesting note, a quaint general store in Rowland, Pennsylvania has a telescope in front of a window facing the Lackawaxen River. Customers can see an active nest where eagles are raising their children.

This beautiful area is protected by several acts of Congress, including the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act (BGEPA), the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, which was modified to protect the upper Delaware River in 1978. The proposed construction is in direct violation of the acts of Congress, but intends NYRI to proceed with its plan to make money. Are said to have powerful lobbyists in Washington who represent them. It seems that nothing can stop the pirates nonprofit to break our national laws that are supposed to protect the environment.

Interestingly, the application by NYRI for designation under the bill Bush faces new energy to the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Interior National Park Service against each other.

In UDPC Besides, many other opposition forces have gathered in an attempt to block the destruction of the Upper Delaware and Lackawaxen Rivers. Besides the support of the residents and businesses throughout the region and political background music is also impressive: Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (Pres., the Waterkeeper Alliance), NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council), NY Senators James L. Seward and Raymond A. Meier, U.S. Representative Don Sherwood of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Representatives Maurice Hinchey and Jerry Birmelin, National Park Service, Sierra Club, American Canoe Association, Environmental Advocates of New York and many others.

Surprisingly, on May 16, aid at the offices of the Washington Senators Arlen Specter and Rick Santorum said that to his knowledge neither Senator had taken a position on the issue.

The eagle American Bald is one of the most magnificent creatures on Earth. It should be our responsibility to ensure the safety of their habitats and preserve areas which feeds and breeds. The eagle is the symbol of our freedom as Americans. We must ensure that future generations can see as they soar into the sky.

The bald eagle, which was almost extinct twenty years before, made a triumphant comeback. Are we going to let this tragedy happen again? Threatening safe habitats for American Bald Eagle is of utmost importance to burning our National Flag. It is unpatriotic and unforgivable! This project should be stopped and stopped at once. If NYRI gets approval at the state level, there will be little chance to stop once they reach Washington.
