Fairbanks is the gateway to Alaska

Fairbanks is the largest city in the interior region of Alaska, and the second largest in the state.

It the main city of Fairbanks, Alaska Metropolitan Statistical Area which encompasses all of Fairbanks North Star Borough.

Before Fairbanks was founded, Athabaskan Koyukon lived, fished and hunted along the banks of the Tanana River for thousands of years. The Tanana and other rivers also served as trade routes with other Athabaskan and Inuit.
